Emergency Relief

The Philippines is the most disaster prone region in all of South East Asia. Natural and manmade disasters plague the country year round. In 2009 alone, several hundred thousand people were displaced from typhoons, landslides and flooding with an additional 100,000 evacuated due to conflict.

ASD's solution:

  • Build capacity of local organizations to have the technical and coordination expertise to respond to disasters and provide water and sanitation
  • Create a network of local NGOs for national first response deployment and develop local protocols appropriate to specific regions, climate and conflict situations
  • Design disaster preparedness protocols for disaster-prone regions
  • Mobilize resources from humanitarian aid agencies, corporations, NGOs, government and donors
  • Integrate Sphere Standards (internationally endorsed standards) to ensure all relocatees/refugees are treated with fairness and dignity and that all human rights are protected
